Sierra York, MA, LPC-Supervisee

I graduated from the University of South Dakota with a master’s in clinical Mental Health and am now working towards my LPC licensure. Much of my graduate clinical experience has involved working with college students and young adults. I enjoy working with clients from an existential framework which involves helping them find deeper meaning in themselves and their struggles. Meaning is found by facing life’s difficulties and our emotions and becoming more present. I believe all clients have the responsibility and power to change. Most importantly, I am passionate about building a positive relationship between counselor and client and a safe environment to meet the client where they are at.

I spent a year internship at Sioux Falls Psychological Services where I saw a wide variety of clients of all ages and presenting problems. I am originally from Watertown where I grew up with a large family who are always spending time together. My family provided me with a loving Christian home where Jesus’ love has inspired me to want to help others as well. I currently live with my best friend and my cat who I recently adopted. When I am not spending time with family and friends, I enjoy reading and going to the movies in my free time. I am also a big Disney fan as I worked there for a very short period in 2020. I believe my passion for good stories allows me to be creative and constantly experience and understand new perspectives which is vital when making connections in the counseling room.
